Stretch Introduces Sony Sensor-based Small Form Factor IP Camera Reference Design

IPCAM7110 Delivers High Image Quality in a Low Power Design

SUNNYVALE, Calif., January 18th 2012 – Stretch Inc., the pioneer and leader in software configurable processors, today announced the release of its IPCAM7110 IP Camera Reference Design Kit. The 1080p60 capable design uses a single Stretch S7110 software configurable processor in conjunction with the high quality Sony IMX036 sensor to deliver extreme processing capability in a low power, small form factor design. The IPCAM7110 features the same Stretch Intelligent Encoder found in the IPCAM7100 and IPCAM7120 kits, compressing video using the Stretch H.264 High Profile CODEC to produce streams with half the bit rate of competing solutions. Commenting on the new reference design kit, Mark Oliver, Stretch director of product marketing, said, "The IPCAM7110 demonstrates the flexibility of Stretch's software-based Image Signal Processing (ISP) engine. We were able to easily modify and tune our algorithms to the unique characteristics of the Sony image sensor."

For the new IPCAM7110 design, Stretch partnered with Sony to use its high definition 1080p IMX036 sensor. The IMX036 sensor interfaces directly to the IPCAM7110 main board via the configurable data ports on the S7110 and, in combination with Stretch's software-based ISP engine, delivers outstanding video quality. The ISP seamlessly integrates the power of the Stretch Intelligent Encoder with the raw data from the Sony IMX036 sensor and performs a series of algorithms that enhance the video and prepare it for compression. Operations include color filter array (CFA) interpolation, defective pixel and black level correction, tone mapping, and 2D and 3D filtering to remove noise and enhance low light operation. "The software-based Stretch ISP, combined with the extreme processing capability of the Stretch software configurable processor, means that customers have plenty of processing capability to modify the Stretch ISP algorithms, or create their own algorithms. They can easily switch out sensors and adapt the standard ISP to produce highly differentiated products," commented Thomas Daniel, Stretch vice president of software engineering. The IPCAM7110 includes a multi-speed Ethernet port used to output IP streams to client devices. The design is also fully ONVIF and PSIA compatible, so it can be configured and monitored by a variety of industry-standard players.
